The Industrial Technology Institute is a wholly owned institute of the Government of Sri Lanka and functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Technology & Research.
A statutory board incorporated on the 1st April 1998, under the Science and Technology Development Act No. 11 of 1994, the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) is the successor of the Ceylon Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (CISIR).
True to the vision, the institute has grown steadily over the past fifty five years from a humble beginning in 1955 (as CISIR) and has expanded continuously to boast of skills and expertise from a myriad of different scientific disciplines. Thus it is with a fulcrum of knowledge and confidence that we come forward to meet the diverse and increasingly complex demands of our valued clientele.
ITI Mandate
The Science and Technology Development Act No.11 of 1994 that came into effect on 01 April 1998 describe our mandate as follows:
The Technology Institute shall be demand driven. The object of the Technology Institute shall be to elevate the level of technology in Sri Lanka to the level required or rapid industrialization.
ITI Quality Policy
The Management of the Industrial Technology Institute is unreservedly committed to maintain the ISO 17025 Quality Management System for Testing and Calibration services and ISO 9000 Quality Management System for the entire institute, in keeping with the National Quality Policy, thus providing customers with services of the highest professional standards.
All ITI Staff are aware of the Quality Systems institutionalized and are therefore committed to provide services in keeping with the International Standards.
All Staff of the Institute endeavors to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction and continual improvement of services by meeting the requirements of the Quality Systems as per ISO 17025 for the Technical Services and ISO 9000 for Quality Management.
ITI Labs and Processes are accredited and conform to the Swedish Board of Accreditation (SWEDAC), Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessments (SLAB), ISO/IEC 17025.
Further the Research and Technology Division (R&D) and Information Services Centre (ISC) of the Industrial Technology Institute stand tall, given that they were the first research institute and library in Sri Lanka to obtain ISO 9001:2008 Certification from the Sri Lanka Standard Institution (SLSI).
