Tissue Culture

Tissue Culture 3 copy

We have a well equipped state of the art production facility for the research and production of the tissue cultured planting material. Our laboratory facilities for plant tissue culture include the following.

  • A general washing area
  • A media preparation, sterilization, and storage area
  • An aseptic transfer area
  • Environmentally controlled culture rooms

We have a well equipped state of the art production facility for the research and production of the tissue cultured planting material. Our laboratory facilities for plant tissue culture include the following.

Tissue culture, also known as micropropagation, is a propagation method used to produce plants under sterile conditions. This method uses plant explants (plant parts) or seeds that have been sterilized before being placed in containers with a growing medium that has some nutrients added. The explants or seeds, the containers and the medium have all been sterilized, and prevent any cut or torn tissue, or the entire explant or seed itself, from becoming infected with a microorganism of some kind and rotting during the time these plant parts require to become rooted or to multiply. In our lab, we are mainly involving in rice tissue culture and successfully developed tissue culture protocols for popular rice varieties as well as for traditional rice varieties available in the Sri Lanka. We can offer you a wide range of tropical and temperate tissue cultured plants with an incomparable quality. For any further information regarding our products, do not hesitate to contact us.

Industrial fermentation

Fermentation is a method of generating enzymes for industrial purposes. Fermentation involves the use of micro organisms, like bacteria and yeast to produce the enzymes. Biotechnology Unit has undertaken an ambitious project to produce common industrial enzymes such as α-amylase, cellulases and lipases for selected industries by fermentation.
