Materials laboratory supports construction organizations in quality control to achieve their goals successfully. ML construction materials testing services are carried out as per the ASTM, BS, ISO and SLS standards for wide range of construction materials.

Cement, cement based products and aggregate

Physical and chemical analysis of cement, concrete, tile adhesives and grouts, admixtures like cement related products are carried out according to standard testing methods to confirm their quality and suitability for constructions purposes.

Physical tests:

  • Adhesive strength of tile adhesives
  • Testing tile grout
  • Soundness, finesse and standard consistency of cement
  • Specific gravity
  • Strength of concrete
  • Clay and cement roofing tiles testing
  • Aggregate tastings (LAAV, AIV, Sieve analysis and flakiness index ect.)

Chemical tests:

  • Chemical composition of cement, mineral and clay
  • Water for construction purposes

Metals

The metal products such as reinforcement steel are tested for their physical properties, chemical composition and resistance to environmental effects using standard test methods.

  • Tensile strength and elongation

Wood and related products

Wood products in the construction applications are tested according to standard test methods to analyze their physical properties.

  • Mechanical properties
  • Fire resistance of wooden doors

Chemical Analysis of Materials

Accredited test parameters

Materials laboratory provides SLAB accredited testing services for heavy metal (such as Pb and Cd) determination of food contact ceramic and glass table ware according to SLS 1222 and ISO 6486, with respect to Pb and Cd release percentages for food safety certificates.

Other testing facilities

Laboratory is equipped with X-ray fluorescent spectrometer, Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, UV-Visible spectrophotometer carbon sulphur analyser and other wet/dry chemical analysers.

  • Analyzing of proactive coating compositions and thickness

Rubber, Plastic and Foot wear Laboratory

Rubber, plastic and foot ware testing service of Materials Laboratory covers a large area of testing services for polymer and related materials with highly qualified staff that can fulfill standard and customized testing requirements.

Rubber and footwear testing

Rubber and footwear testing service provide testing of raw materials, semi finished and finished products for physical properties and environmental and chemical effect analysis and characterization of materials.

The physical testing services are accredited by Swedish Accreditation Board (SWEDAC) and Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) for ISO 17025. Laboratory participate in “OFI-PTS” international proficiency testing program for rubber physical testing parameters annually, and in year 2011 results revealed the high accuracy of our testing methods.

Footwear testing is done as per the ISO, BS, SLS and customer specified testing methods, Also preparation of product specification for customers. More info

Plastic and Plastic based products Testing

Materials laboratory is capable of providing testing service is accordance with ISO, BS, ASTM and SLS standards for physical and environmental effect analysis and material characterization. More info

Physical and chemical properties of paper and boards, medicinal textiles and biomass fuels are tested in accordance with national and international standard test methods.
