Since September 2004, the Quality Assurance Department (QAD) of the ITI has been responsible for ensuring that the high standards of the institute are upheld in all its products and services.
The unit maintains contact with the Swedish Board of Accreditation for Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC) and the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SLAB) and works with these two organisations to secure and maintain their respective accreditions for the ITI’s laboratories.
Apart from continually conducting Technical Audits and engaging in other forms of Proficiency Testing within the ITI, the QAD was also instrumental in providing assistance to the Information Services Centre regarding the implementation of the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System.
The QAD also organizes customised training programmes for other scientific institutes and has provided training to several overseas laboratories in the recent past.
