The overall objective of this project is to reduce the postharvest loss in mango using a hexanal ‘smart delivery system’ (HSDS). This project aims at expanding the utilization of agricultural waste, improving environmental sustainability of fruit packaging and creating new opportunities for farmers. Three specific technologies such as developing hexanal impregnated nano-fibre delivery system using banana waste, incorporating HSDS into packaging films for premium quality of individual fruits and optimization of hexanal incorporated bio-wax will be investigated during the project period. ITI in collaboration with University of Guelph (UoG), Canada and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), India conduct the research program with financila assistance provided by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) & International Development Research Center (IDRC). The project which was started in March 2012 is expected to be completed in September 2014.
