Food Safety has become a major concern in Sri Lanka with increasing health issues and the obvious degradation of quality in local and imported food products. The nutritional value of consumed food is also a concern and the availability and access to proper food having adequate nutrients is avoided due to the presence of various non-permitted additives and other substances of chemical nature in food. The project aims to randomly collect selected fruit & vegetable samples from the market and analyze those for pesticide residues, petroleum based chemicals and other substances of chemical nature such as antibiotics and hormones.
