Biotechnology

Who we are

The Biotechnology Section (BTS) hosts research projects, testing services, a number of collaborations and educational training programs on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology for the advancement of agriculture, health, environment and industry in Sri Lanka.

Our Testing Facility

National Testing laboratory for Detection and Identification of LMO/GMOs

A state-of the art LMO/GMO testing laboratory was established under the Biotechnology Section in 2022 which is fully equipped and completed for the smooth functioning of LMO/GMO testing. A one -way laboratory in design, spans up in an area of approximately 8000 sq. Ft., of existing space, carefully partitioned and rearranged to avoid cross contaminations. The laboratory is fully equipped with key equipment essential for analysis and was fully funded by the GEF/ FAO. Workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) traceable to ISO methods have been set up for sample processing, testing through analysis. All the test equipment is maintained in a controlled environment.
